Welcome to the home of the Uhr, Peterson and Ker Family
Louisa waved a long goodbye from the dock as another of her children set sail on a perilous voyage to Australia. She knew she’d never see any of them again as she choked back her tears. How dire was her life for her to make these decisions? What happened to her first and second husbands? Researching family history always brings mysteries to be solved and that’s part of the reason for this website.
The fair woman in the central photo is Louisa Ker. Maybe she wasn't as demure as her portrait depicts – living in early 19th century London had plenty of adversity for Louisa to contend with. She first married Peter Peterson in 1800, bearing two daughters and a son. Thus, the Ker and Peterson names also colour our tree with their tales. Louisa then married Johan Uhr in 1811 and together they had 5 sons.
Our Australian Uhr Family begins in England, and our first mystery starts at a brick wall with Johan Uhr – a mariner who appeared from nowhere and disappeared with just as much obscurity. There are many theories about Johan, but thorough research means we need to show proof of evidence and not to assume anyone else’s data is correct. So far, we have no proof of his origin, only theories.
Guests
To read Johan’s story and many other historical family mysteries, please look in the Featured Articles section on the right-hand side. This list of articles will be added to as they are written. You'll also find a Mini Tree image in there for reference.
Other Uhr families from around the world are highly encouraged to also make contact. Maybe you have some knowledge which will shed some light on Johan’s origin, or just want to make contact with another Uhr family.

Maybe you’ve identified another historical mystery in this tree and would like to have it added to the Featured Articles list? Do you have a photo tucked away, and no idea who’s in it? If you think it could be part of this family, consider having it added to the Mystery Photos section in Most Wanted.
The Headstones and Cemeteries sections will also be added to progressively. Eventually you’ll be able to take a handy list of names when visiting a cemetery. Please make contact if you’d like to help with this project. A prefilled spreadsheet will be supplied, you only have to find the cemetery details and any headstone photos – sometimes easier said than done, but any help will be appreciated.

If you have any family photos not yet included and would like to share them, I’ll happily exchange my photo restoration abilities for them. Restoration of any unrelated photos you may have can also be negotiated. Please see Albums for examples.
To the family I’ve met, and to those I’ve yet to meet, thank you for your interest in preserving our history and the stories of those we could never meet.
